Desolation Canyon River Rafting Trips

Itinerary

Here is some helpful information about our Desolation Canyon river rafting expeditions which will prepare you for an unforgettable experience in this remote wilderness area.

Meeting Place and Time

8:00 a.m. in the lobby of the Canyonlands Field airport near Moab, Utah. Please check in at the Redtail Aviation Desk.

The airport is located on HWY 191, 14 miles south of I-70 (exit 182) and 17 miles north of Moab. A map will be provided.

Optional Meeting Place (by prior arrangement)

The lobby of the Grand Vista Hotel, 2790 Crossroads Blvd, Grand Junction, Colorado. I-70 exit 31. Phone (800) 800-7796 or (970) 241-8411. Three or more people are required to meet at this location - additional charges apply.

What Happens Next?

At the airport, you will be greeted by the experienced pilots of Redtail Aviation, who will escort you on your charter flight to the launch site. Please note: due to weight limitations on the aircraft, your baggage should not exceed 25 pounds. We also ask that all beverages, including soft drinks, beer and wine, be pre-ordered in view of the weight limit. Our crew will gladly transport your beverage order to the launch site. Beverages in cans are recommended.

After the 45-minute flight to Sand Wash, you will be met by your river guides and be provided with a large dry bag for your personal belongings. You'll need to pack just about everything in it, leaving out anything you might need during the day, like sunscreen, a hat, camera, insect repellent, rainwear, etc. These items can be carried in a small pack for easy access.

While your guides transfer your baggage to the river by vehicle, you will be guided down a 1½-mile trail to the boat ramp. Wear shoes with good tread for this downhill hike. At the boat ramp, you will be fitted with a life jacket and asked to listen carefully to an important orientation and safety presentation. Then away we go!!!

Each day is spent anticipating the whitewater and enjoying the serenity of the Green river, playing in inflatable kayaks, stopping for lunch, taking swim breaks and hikes. As evening approaches we'll find an inviting beach, set up camp, and later sit down to a fine dinner prepared by your guides.

Come morning, your guides will have hot coffee ready and a tempting hot breakfast to help stir you out of your tent. Then it's time to pack up and hit the river for another day of Green River excitement!

All good things must come to an end, so after traveling 89 river miles together, the time will come to bid farewell to your river guides and new friends alike. Once we land at the boat ramp, we'll load your dry bags onto an Adventure Bound van and take off for the 1-hour ride back to the Canyonlands Field airport near Moab, Utah, arriving at approximately 5:30 p.m. Or for the 2 ½ hour ride back to the Grand Vista Hotel in Grand Junction, Colorado, arriving at approximately 7:00 p.m.

We're looking forward to seeing you. Please call if we can answer any questions. Thank you for choosing Adventure Bound River Expeditions.
